Take a Right, Robot!

10-15 min

VocabularyVocab:

RIGHT, LEFT, STRAIGHT, THROUGH, AROUND, BEHIND, IN FRONT OF

A young boy wears a printed out blue robot mask.

Cut out the robot masks and put them on! Give your little robot spatial directions to move around your home — the directions lead to where prizes are hidden!

Here are some playful tips:

  • Hide a few prizes before you start (like a juice box, pencil, sticker, or small toy).
  • Talk with robot-like voices and make mechanical, robot-like movements.
  • If a wrong turn is made, make stiff robot movements and use your robot voice to say, “Does not compute! Does not compute! The little robot must turn left, not right!”

How to Play:

  1. Put on your masks and practice being robots. The big robot (you) will give the little robot directions that will lead to a prize!
  2. Give the little robot spatial directions to move around your home, entering several different rooms, before giving directions that lead to a prize.

Note: Learning left and right takes repetition and practice, usually over several years! Take your time and have fun together!
