Children plant seeds in soil and in plastic sandwich bags.
Circle Time: Introduction
Introducing Seeds & Journals
Children examine and discuss seeds and planting materials they will use in their hands-on activities, then practice using the photo tool in the Plants Journal iPad app.
This Is the Way We Plant the Seeds
As children sing, they mime the steps of planting and caring for a seed and waiting for it to grow.
Guided Small Group
Children "plant" bean seeds in two different ways. First they place seeds in a plastic sandwich bag with a moist paper towel. Then they plant bean seeds in soil.
Growing Beans: Journal Entries
Children take a photo and describe their bean seeds in a bag. Then they take a photo and discuss their bean seeds planted in soil.
Science Center: Children sort a selection of 4-5 seeds that differ in size, color and texture.
Circle Time: Wrap-Up
Children recount how they planted the bean seeds and make predictions about when the first plant will emerge from the soil. Then they plant some other seeds for the Class Garden.
A Seed Without Water
Children investigate whether a seed will sprout and grow without water.
