This page will provide information to support teachers in using the Early Math with Gracie & Friends™ curriculum.
One section of this Professional Development page will explore math talk in early childhood classrooms. The other two sections will explore equipartitioning, or equal sharing, and subitizing, or recognizing at a glance how many of something there are. Strategies teachers can use to promote learning in these key areas in the early childhood classroom will be explored.
Together, these sections will address the following questions:
- What are equipartioning and subitizing? What is math talk?
- Why are these topics and skills important in early childhood education?
- How can teachers support math talk, through modeling, asking questions, and promoting math talk among children?
