A father reads the book “Bug Dance” by Stuart J. Murphy to two children.

Read Bug Dance by Stuart J. Murphy. Read the story several times throughout the month, and try some of these activities:

  • Act out the spatial language: left, right, forward, and backwards, whenever these words are mentioned. For example, when you read “two steps to the left,” stand up and move two steps to the left. When you read, “one hop forward,” hop forward.
  • Do the Bug Dance together! Display the last two pages of the book that give the directions for how to do the dance. Put on music, call out the steps, and have fun dancing!

Note: Learning left and right takes repetition and practice, usually over several years! Take your time and have fun together!
