Landmark Run

VocabularyVocab:

landmark, route, around, through, map

A young girl runs across a playground.

Pick two landmarks on the playground (like a slide, the swings, or a tree). Then, get ready to take three different trips to get from one landmark to the other (some ways will be shorter than others). Each time, count how many steps it took to get from one landmark to the other. Remember: take the same size step each time!

Which route took the most number of steps? The least number of steps? Why? Did you have to go around or through something that added more steps?

Not outside? Try this activity inside by choosing two objects (like a chair, table, or shoe) and setting them up in a room.

For more fun, make a map of the different routes that you took!
