Bird’s-Eye and Ground-Level Views

10-15 min

VocabularyVocab:

BIRD’S-EYE VIEW, GROUND-LEVEL VIEW

A father and son look at drawings of objects from an aerial perspective or bird’s eye view.

Explore the difference between a bird’s-eye view and a ground-level view.

Materials:

  • Bird’s-eye view cards (printout)
  • Ground-level view game boards (printout)
  • Scissors
  • Drinking glass

Before You Play:

  • Print out the cards and game boards.
  • Cut out the cards.

How to Play:

  1. Start by looking at the drinking glass and talk about the difference between a bird’s-eye and a ground-level view. Look at the glass from the side to see the ground-level view. Stand over the glass (as if you were a bird in the sky) and look down on it to see the bird’s-eye view.
  2. Play the game. Take turns picking cards and matching the bird’s-eye view cards of the kitchen gadgets with the ground-level view pictures on the game board. Play with the color set first, then the black & white set (which is harder).
  3. Pull out some actual kitchen gadgets and compare how they look from a bird’s-eye and a ground-level view.
