Children roll a die and hop that many times toward the finish line.

- Sidewalk chalk
- Speedy Die from activity on Lesson 2
Preparation
- Draw a start line (either a straight line or a box) and establish a finish line 20 to 30 feet away — if you have the space — with the sidewalk chalk or with some barrier, like a fence.
Directions
- Have two children take turns being the die roller and the die caller. The other children can line up behind the start line.
- The die roller rolls the die and picks it up quickly after it stops. The die caller looks at the die and calls out the number rolled. The rest of the children take that number of hops toward the finish line. (Instead of the whole group hopping at once, you can also have each child take a turn hopping to the rolls.) The winner will be the first person to reach the finish line. After one or several children reach the finish line, play several additional rounds with different die rollers and callers.
Note: If the die caller does not get the correct number, have the die roller help out. If that does not work, you should call the number. Later, provide additional support to the child(ren) as needed.
