Preparation
- Familiarize yourself with the words and actions of the fingerplay “Dig a Little Hole.” Print the lyrics if you wish.

- Have children join you in doing the actions of this fingerplay. Soon they will also be able to chant the words to “Dig a Little Hole.”

Plant a little seed (pretend to drop in seed)
Pour a little water (pretend to water)
Pull a little weed (pretend to pull up weed) -
Chase a little rabbit (flick hand to shoo off rabbit)
Where did it go? (place hand above eye and look left and right)
Here comes the sunshine . . . (form circle with hands above head)
Watch my bean plant grow! (hold a fist in front of chest and slowly raise your arm straight as you unfold all 10 fingers)

- How does the sun help the bean plant grow? Explain that the sunlight gives energy to the plant; the energy helps the plant grow.
